Bachelor of Science in Psychology

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BSP) is a 182-credit-hour program that includes 66 credit hours of general education, 100 credit hours focused on the psychology core, and 16 credit hours of electives. This program is only offered online.

Psychology is the study of human behavior, mental processes, and the many factors that shape individual and collective experiences. The discipline explores the full breadth of psychological theory and research. This program is designed to help students build an understanding of core psychological principles and help equip them with the analytical, research, and communication skills needed to think critically about human experience. Students examine how psychological knowledge is developed, evaluated, and applied across a range of real-world contexts. This program supports students in working to develop a well-rounded foundation in the field of psychology.

This program does not lead to additional licensure or certification. As such, CTU has made no determination regarding prerequisites for licensure or certification in any state or jurisdiction.

Mission Statement

The College of General Education and Psychology builds the educational foundation that empowers students with competence plus confidence for academic, professional, and personal success. Our comprehensive General Education program encompasses technology fluency, professional presence, problem-solving, writing, information literacy, and cultural competence, helping students prepare for lifelong learning, responsible leadership, and academic success in an ever-changing world.

Building on this foundation, the College's Psychology programs cultivate a deeper understanding of human behavior and helps graduates prepare to apply evidence-based principles to the complex challenges facing individuals, organizations, and society. Guided by experienced faculty, innovative teaching, and real-world application, the College empowers graduates to apply their knowledge, skills, and understanding with competence and confidence to make meaningful contributions in their professions, organizations, and communities.

Additional Information

Licensed therapists and counselors typically hold a master’s or doctoral degree, complete supervised clinical hours, and meet the requirements of their state licensing board. A bachelor’s in psychology can potentially be a common first step, and can serve as groundwork for graduate study, but is not enough on its own. If licensure is your goal, review your state board’s requirements and the admissions prerequisites of the graduate program you’re considering before you enroll. This is not a clinical psychology program. It does not prepare a student to be a counselor, clinical psychologist/therapist, or have direct patient care in mind.
